Using prostate-specific antigen doubling time in clinical practice.

چکیده
Isolated PSA failures after definitive local therapy might precede clinically evident manifestations of recurrent disease by many years [1,2]. These biochemical failures might represent local recurrences, distant recurrences, or both, and accurately determining the site of recurrence early remains a diagnostic challenge. Independent of pretreatment and prostatectomy disease features (i.e. pretreatment PSA level, Gleason score, surgical margin status), PSA kinetics provides a useful adjunct to aid in clinical decisions [1,2]. A short PSA doubling time (PSADT) in particular has been shown to predict subsequent distant recurrences, disease-specific and overall mortality after radical prostatectomy, radiation therapy, or combined therapy [1–6].

Investigation of the relationship between prostate specific antigen doubling time and the severity of a malignant tumor of the prostate
Background: Prostate cancer has been reported as a worldwide important kind of cancer and the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality among men. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum level is one of the most important markers of prostate cancer diagnosis. While PSA level helps predict the risk of prostate cancer development, researchers still looking for ways to increase the accura...
متن کاملAssociation between prostate specific antigen change over time and prostate cancer recurrence risk: a joint model
Background: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is an important biomarker to monitor patients after treated with radiation therapy (RT). The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the PSA data and prostate cancer recurrence using the joint modeling. Methods: This historical cohort study was performed on 422 prostate cancer patients. Inclusion criteria included: patients with loc...
متن کاملAge Specific Reference Levels of Serum Prostate-Specific Antigen, Prostate Volume and Prostate Specific Antigen Density in Healthy Iranian Men
Background: It is relevant to highlight that there is not a precise and perfect report on either 95 percentile value (upper limit of normal range) or on appropriate reference intervals for serum PSA in Iranian population. Objective: To determine age-specific reference ranges for serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentration and PSA density (PSAD) and prostate volumes in a population of he...
متن کاملProstate-specific antigen doubling time and response to cabazitaxel in a hormone-resistant metastatic prostate cancer patient
We report a case of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, who received prior treatment with docetaxel and was then given cabazitaxel as salvage therapy. The patient was monitored by prostate-specific antigen doubling time and prostate-specific antigen absolute value. The prostate-specific antigen doubling time was found to be a good response predictor in the patient.
متن کاملRecurrent PSA after prostatectomy for prostate cancer: implications of PSA doubling time.
After radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, men frequently develop detectable levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA). A slow rate of increase, as characterized by the PSA doubling time (PSADT) is the principal marker for a favorable prognosis. Data and results presented in 2 recent clinical articles studying cohorts of men with clinical stage T1/T2 prostate cancer are reviewed and used ...
متن کاملPreparation of an artificial matrix to replace human standards of prostate specific antigen IRMA assay kit [Persian]
Introduction: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is one of the most sensitive markers for diagnosis of prostate cancer. Immunoradiometric kit (IRMA) is a common and sensitive method for determination of PSA in clinical laboratories. This kit has four major components: solid phase coated with monocolonal antibody, pair antibody labelled with I-125, series of standards i...
